Yep, it's a Snow Day here at First U (Friday, Feb. 26). The Shaker schools are closed and so, according to our policy, so are we. Stay home; stay safe.
Rumi didn't say much about snow. Living in the middle of present-day Turkey in the 13th century, I suppose he didn't see much. I could be wrong. He only mentions it once that I know, and as a metaphor: Be melting snow, he says, and he's not commanding the snow to melt, as he follows that up with Wash yourself of yourself. Let the Friend in; open your soul to Life. Just before that, he says the following, and today we can understand the final line in both a metaphorical and literal way:
"Lo, I am with you always" means when you look for God,
God is in the look of your eyes,
in the thought of looking, nearer to you than your self,
or things that have happened to you.
There's no need to go outside.
