Ruminations

I called through your door,
"The mystics are gathering
in the street. Come out!"
"Leave me alone. I'm sick."
"I don't care if you're dead!"
Jesus is here, and he wants
to resurrect somebody!" (Rumi/Barks)
I find the sequence of this time of year compelling. On my de-literalized Christian calendar, we begin with Palm Sunday. For me, this day represents all the false hopes we all carry that someone else is going to fix our problems. S/he rides into town and expectations go through the roof. Then, of course, those expectations come crashing back down, right on top of your head, and they hurt. So begins the Tenebrae of the soul, the disappointment, the darkness. And if we do not avoid it, or spend all of our time and energy trying to push it away, something astonishing can happen. In the midst of feeling sick and tired, even dead, an Easter dawns, new Life wells up within us. You don't have to know from where. You just have to open the door and let it in.
May great blessings be yours in this Passover/Easter season.
