Bach: Art of the Fugue
Fugue as exciting as Opera?
Hear renowned Bach scholar and keyboardist, First Church’s Music Director Emerita, Marcellene Hawk Mayhall, play Bach’s Are of the Fugue on the fortepiano in our Sanctuary on January 24 at 4:00 pm. Based on analysis of the little-known hand written manuscript, Ms Mayhall will both perform and discuss a radically faster-than-traditional interpretation of a masterwork that is alternatively sublime, virtuosic, dramatic, and even humorous. Franklin Cohen & Friends
Franklin Cohen is the principal clarinetist of the Cleveland Orchestra and always a favorite with audiences. The concert will be in memoriam to his late wife, Lynette, who was a member of this congregation. Performers will be Cleveland Orchestra musicians Franklin Cohen, Isabel Trautwein, Sae Shirigami, Joanna Patterson and Tanya Ell. Pieces to be performed include Weber Clarinet Quintet and Hindemith Clarinet Quintet.
