List of Committees
The committee provides a wide variety of presentations and discussions with well known academic and community leaders that address issues of current importance to the congregation and our wider community.
Susan Alcorn and Brian Larson
The committee stores and organizes church documents and photos, and makes special displays throughout the year.
The Chancel Choir sings on most Sundays between September and June. Practice is every Wednesday at 7:30 pm. New singers are invited to join us in September and January.
The Chancel Committee is responsible for providing flowers for the chancel on Sunday mornings and for other special chancel decorations as needed.
Committee of Youth Leadership (COYL)
With the mentoring of six adults, eight youth from 7th to 12th grade connect and integrate their peers into the church community through social justice projects, fellowship, religious education and worship.
Committee on Ministry
The Committee on Ministry consists of members chosen by the Parish Minister who meet periodically to discuss comments, volunteered or solicited from the congregation regarding the church's ministry thus providing a forum for discussion and feedback for the Parish Minister.
The committee strives to promote efficient and effective communication within the church community and to spread the church's message through various media to the world around us. We continually make improvements to our publications, newsletter, advertising, communications technology and web site.
Covenant Group Steering
The Covenant Group Steering Committee works with the Director of Lifespan Faith Development to guide and support the Covenant Group Ministry. We process registrations, coordinate with group facilitators and disseminate information about the program.
Mary Ellen McNulty
This committee oversees and supports the employment of non-ministerial staff. It ensures that sound human resource practices are followed for the benefit of the church as an organization and the staff as working professionals.
Lay Pastoral Care Team
The LPCT is comprised of members who provide, upon referral from the Parish Minister, a pastoral presence to members in need. Trained by our Community Minister Affiliated, the Rev. Patricia Shelden, the team also attends periodic inservices and occasionally provides programs of interest to the congregation.
This committee operates the Cary Alburn Library Committee, which is open most Sunday mornings. We purchase, display and loan books that are relevant to our faith, the Ministers' sermons, Community Forum topics and issues being studied by the UUA.
The committee works with the Membership Coordinator to address fellowship and community. We provide opportunites for involvement in the church, especially for new members. We establish and monitor membership procedures, while fostering each person's connection to the church and the wider Unitarian Universalist movement.
As a UUA designated "Welcoming Congregation", we provide programs to sensitize the congregation to issues of sexual minorities and to create a welcoming envirnoment for all people.
The Music Committee oversees the music program of the church in consultation with the Music Director.
This committee organizes its members into teams of four to usher on Sunday mornings and for special events. It's a great way to get to know fellow church members. It's a once-a-month commitment, and there are no committee meetings.
UU Connections builds and strengthens relationships with the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), the Ohio Meadville District (OMD), other UU congregations and local interfaith organizations. We want to create greater visibility for First Unitarian Church and to foster greater participation of our congregation in the larger community. We do this through communication, support for existing activities and sponsorship of new activities when appropriate.

UU Service Committee
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is an independently funded, world-wide social service committee. Locally, we encourage individual membership in UUSC and promote its work and activities.
Youth Religious Education
The YRE committee provides guidance and leadership in carrying out the activities of the Youth Religious Education program in collaboration with the Director of Religious Education.

Adult Religious Education
Provides guidance and leadership in carrying out the activities of the ARE program in collaboration with the Director of Religious Education.
Growth & Development
This is a Committee of the Board that addresses the Strategic Plan for the congregation, monitoring and communicating with the Board regarding the implementation of the Plan. At the request of the Board, it works to develop a new plan when appropriate.
Policy-based Governance (PBG)
This is another Committee of the Board that promotes leadership collaboration and informed connection between the Board and the Staff Leadership Team (SLT: Parish Minister, Dir. of Religious Education, Administrator) by providing continuing education opportunities for the Board, facilitating preparation of Monitoring Reports, and supporting the evolution of policies and monitoring reports as needs change.
